EC2102 Review – Macroeconomic Analysis I

Taken in AY17/18 Sem 1

Lecturer: Prof. Wong Wei Kang

Tutor: Mr Yang Yucheng

Workload: 1x 2h weekly lecture, 1x 1h weekly tutorial, 1x Mid-terms, 1x Finals

Econs majors you all are gonna have to take this so there’s no escaping.

Lecture: There were webcasts for this module. The slides do not follow like 1 lecture use 1 set of slides. Prof was okay but sometimes he goes off point too much. I think I recall there was one time he ended up talking about some debate involving Keynes and Yellen for half an hour then we rushed through the lesson. Heads up, be prepared to unlearn some of the macroeconomic stuff that you learnt in EC1101E, because EC2102 is quite different.

Tutorial: Every week, there’ll be tutorials to be done, so just bring them to class, and students will present their answers to the class for participation. Mr Yang was quite willing to clarify any questions after class, staying back with us. He’s really helpful.

Mid-Terms: All MCQs, testing you some equations, some math, some graphs, and what might happen if you change a variable like income. Quite manageable.

Finals: It was open-ended, and I covered quite a lot of the content. But if I recall correctly, the exam focused a lot on the graph shifts and required us to draw lots of graphs. There wasn’t a lot of math involved. So watch out for all those IS LM SRAS LRAS curves, as well as what happens when money expands, or G increases, RBC theory, etc.

Sigh… Got B only LOL. My mid-terms didn’t do well I guess, and finals felt average only.
